Product Description

Dancers ages 11-16 come together to learn the art of choreography. Throughout the week, they find original movement themes to develop into personal expressions. They create motifs and develop them, learn to marry music with dance, explore group forms and transitions. By the last day, they are ready to show a lengthy group work to families and friends. Past workshops have also completed site-specific choreography, dance videos, and learned phrase-work from guest instructors of particular styles and genre. No prerequisite;  camp is open to new & experienced learners of dance.

Session 1: July 10-14, 10am-5pm (5 days)

Theme: Revise, Recycle, Reinvent Your Dance
Have you ever wondered how new dances are made and what it means to be inspired versus copy another person’s dance? Dancers will look at choreography inspired by previous dances, and investigate what it means to make a dance inspired by another choreographer. Participants will create their own dances and develop renditions of each other’s dances.

Session 2: July 24-28, 10am-5pm (5 days)

Theme: Dancing Through the Ages

Teens/Tweens explore, experience, and analyze popular dances & music of the 1960s to modern day- what inspired them and how they were created. While looking at the trends of the past, dancers investigate current trends, and envision/create dances for the future that are relevant to them.
